Ride on two wheels in the Sabina countryside, between paths and underwood, guarded by the villages. There are unforgettable experiences waiting to be lived by bicycle enthusiasts. Whether you are a professional or untrained biker, in Sabina you will find routes of multiple levels, suitable for different legs and needs.
Among the best mountain bike routes we point out the path to Mount Tancia, with its 1.292 m, the highest peak of the Sabine Mountains. An excellent opportunity to photograph the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo. This circular route, for fairly trained athletes, begins on a paved road from Roccantica continuing along the dirt road that leads to Monte Scollato. The 5 km climb features a constant elevation gain of 15%-20%. After a pleasant ride in the underwood you will arrive at the Cognolo refuge and again to the CAI path. This path runs along the hillside, before descending towards the valley and reaching a huge grassy meadow. Once at the foot of Mount Tancia, an easy path will take you to the mountain peak.
An easier mountain bike route, reserved for the less trained and also perfect for children, leads to the Tiber-Farfa Reserve. The ride faced in the opposite direction, has fewer slopes except for the only but short difficult climb to Nazzano. It starts from Poggio Mirteto and through the dirt road that runs along the river bank between groves, irrigation canals and cultivated fields, you reach an artificial lake. The itinerary also passes through a playground and some wildlife observation cabins.
The most trained bikers will let themselves be tempted by the path that leads to the Sabine lakes Salto and Turano. For distance and height difference (100 km with an estimated difference in height of about 1.500 m) it is considered a medium difficulty itinerary, reserved for more resistant cyclists. From the Aquila village of Carsoli, we start in the direction of Tufo and Leofreni to arrive, after 26 km, at Lago del Salto and then go up to the Rieti center of Vallecupola. From here, you continue towards Longone Sabino, Stipes and Valle Verde until you reach Lake Turano. After Castel di Tora, going up the valley of the Turano river, you head back to Carsoli.
This 105 km ring route starts (and ends) from the Collevecchio railway station (26 km from Poggio Mirteto), and winds through 11 medieval Sabina villages (from Collevecchio to Cantalupo, from Roccantica to Casperia, Montasola, Cottanello, Configni, Vacone, Poggio Mirteto and Fara in Sabina) on the right bank of the Tiber. The route, which has a maximum difference in height of 590 meters, crosses paths, horse trails and cycle paths and is served by a network of businesses and accommodation facilities intended for hospitality. A series of tables with a QR-Code system refer to the GPX tracks of the itinerary.
